The Chain is a group composition by Fleetwood Mac featured on their 1977 album Rumours. It combined unfinished bits of songs by Stevie Nicks and Christine McVie with an instrumental jam by the other band members. The vocal range is G#3 to C#5.
John McVie's bass solo and the ensuing jam became the theme music from the BBC's coverage of Formula One motor racing.
The song became Fleetwood Mac's standard concert-opener even when the band took different lineups for a while. It was also performed by Lindsey Buckingham on his 1992 tour in support of his album Out of the Cradle.
In the song, Christine McVie hits a high C# in the fifth octave.
