Stop Draggin' My Heart Around is a song written by Tom Petty and Mike Campbell for Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and recorded by the band with Stevie Nicks for her 1981 solo debut Bella Donna.
The song had been intended for the Heartbreakers album Hard Promises but set aside in favour of other tracks. Nicks had been begging Petty to write her a song. In partial conciliation to this request, Petty allowed her to sing the song Insider with him but ultimately kept this for Hard Promises.
Instead, Petty and Campbell offered Nicks a song they had left off Hard Promises. The song became Nicks' first hit single away from Fleetwood Mac. It peaked at #3 on Billboard, higher than any other single credited to Nicks or Petty would ever achieve.
The only member of the Heartbreakers not featured here was their bassist Ron Blair. Bass duties were instead handled by Donald 'Duck' Dunn of Booker T and the MGs.
