Say You Love Me is a song written by Christine McVie and recorded by her with Fleetwood Mac for their self-titled 1975 album. The song peaked at #11 on the Billboard Hot 100 for three weeks, and remains one of their best known songs. Its success helped the group's album to sell over eight million copies worldwide.
In the UK, "Say You Love Me" was the fourth single from the album, but the first to chart. It peaked at number 40 there in September 1976, the first time (barring reissues) that a single by Fleetwood Mac had charted in their country of origin since The Green Manalishi in 1970.
In Canada, Shirley Eikhard covered the song and released it as a single several weeks in advance of Fleetwood Mac in early June 1976. Eikhard took the song into the Canadian top 40, peaking at number 34; Fleetwood Mac's version, released only a few weeks later, peaked at 29 in September.
The song became a concert staple for the band. For the 1997 live reunion album, The Dance, it featured guitarist Lindsey Buckingham playing banjo, including a new introduction, and backing vocal contributions from her former husband, bassist John McVie. On the 2009 Unleashed tour, at which time Christine McVie was not a member of the group, the song was performed as a duet between Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham.
