Rattlesnake Shake is a song written by Peter Green and recorded by him with Fleetwood Mac for their 1969 album Then Play On. The song is an ode to masturbation and the lyrics make a tongue-in-cheek reference to drummer Mick Fleetwood. The song remained in Fleetwood Mac's live set until 1974. Performances from 1971 onwards featured Bob Welch on lead vocals. Welch would record the song again for his Live From the Roxy concert in 1981.
Rick Vito, who was Mac's guitarist from 1987-90 did his own recording of the song as the title track from his sixth album, released in 2005.
The song represented Then Play On on the 1971 Greatest Hits album.
