Landslide is a song written by Stevie Nicks and performed by her with Lindsey Buckingham on acoustic guitar for Fleetwood Mac's self-titled 1975 album.
Nicks wrote the song while visiting Aspen, Colorado at a time when considering whether to return to education or continue with music. The sight of the snow-covered Rocky Mountains made her think in terms of avalanches and the possibility of everything crashing down around her in a metaphorical sense.
The song became a staple of the group's live shows. Later shows saw Christine McVie play a keyboard solo where the studio album had featured an electric guitar break. On the 2018-19 tour An Evening With Fleetwood Mac, by which time Buckingham was no longer a member of the band, the electric guitar solo was restored for the first time since the original recording, this time played by sidesman Neale Heywood while new member Neil Finn played acoustic guitar. Billy Burnette had done so on the 1990 Behind the Mask tour.
It gained a new audience firstly when covered on a b-side by the Smashing Pumpkins and even more so when released as a single by the Dixie Chicks in 2002. This version peaked at #7 on the Billboard Hot 100.
