Greatest Hits was the very first compilation of material recorded by Fleetwood Mac in their most popular configuration from 1975-87. It also featured two new tracks As Long As You Follow and No Questions Asked which were the first songs to feature new guitarists Billy Burnette and Rick Vito.
Over My Head only featured on the US version while Oh Diane and Seven Wonders only appeared on the European/Australian cassette and CD issues. Big Love and You Make Loving Fun did not appear on the European/Australian vinyl editions.
The album marked the first appearance of the originally released version of Sara on CD as it had been cut to fit on the original CD release of Tusk.
The album was dedicated to Lindsey Buckingham who had recently left the band. He would later rejoin from 1997-2018.
