Go Your Own Way is a song written by Lindsey Buckingham and performed by him with Fleetwood Mac on their 1977 album Rumours. Although Buckingham had contributed songs to the previous album, Fleetwood Mac (1975), this was the first to feature as the A-side of a single.
Combining acoustic and electric guitars with a biting lyric and a soaring chorus, the song reached the top twenty in several countries, topping the charts in Belgium and the Netherlands. It was their third Dutch No 1 after Albatross and Oh Well.
Stevie Nicks, at whom the song was directed, found the line "Packing up and shacking up is all you want to do" to be hurtful and inaccurate. Despite this, she began singing along with this line after Buckingham rejoined the group in 1997.
After Buckingham left the group in 1987 and later again in 2018, the song continued to be performed by Fleetwood Mac being sung during their respective times in the group by Billy Burnette and more recently Neil Finn.
