Fleetwood Mac Wiki

Gary Moore, born Robert William Gary Moore (April 4th 1952-February 6th 2011) was a guitarist/singer/songwriter/bandleader from Belfast, Northern Ireland. In his early years as a musician he was mentored by Peter Green. Green was given an acknowledgement on the rear of Moore's band Skid Row's debut album. Skid Row were managed and produced by Clifford Davis who was Fleetwood Mac's original manager. The connection between Green and Moore was solidified when Green sold Moore his 1959 Gibson Les Paul guitar

Over the coming years Moore became well-known for his on-and-off connection with Thin Lizzy and their bassist/frontman Phil Lynott (who also counted the Green-era Mac as an influence). From the 1980s onwards he concentrated mostly on his solo career gaining a following for his work in the hard rock genre. It was in 1990 that he released the album Still Got the Blues which, as its title suggested, featured a shift of genre to a blues-rock style of playing which would come to define Moore for the rest of his life. The album featured a cover of the Peter Green-penned Fleetwood Mac number Stop Messin' Round with additional verses. Moore continued in this oeuvre with After Hours in 1992.

In 1995 Moore brought out the album Blues for Greeny featuring renditions of Green's songs both with Mac and John Mayall's Bluesbreakers. All Moore's playing on the album was on the guitar Green had sent him (now owned by Kirk Hammett of Metallica).

Moore died of a drink-related heart attack on February 6th 2011.
