Bare Trees is the sixth studio album by Fleetwood Mac, released in March 1972. It was their last album to feature Danny Kirwan.
Kirwan and the other two singer/songwriters in the group, Christine McVie and Bob Welch, each contributed two lyrical numbers. Kirwan also contributed two instrumentals and a setting of Rupert Brooke's poem Dust.
The concluding track, Thoughts On a Grey Day was written and read by Aileen Scarrot an elderly lady who lived in the village of Headley in Hampshire where the band were living together at the time.
The album was certified platinum in 1988 probably on the strength of it containing the original version of Sentimental Lady, which became a solo hit for Bob Welch in 1977. It peaked at 70 in the US and 37 in Australia.
The cover photographs were taken in the garden at Benifold, the band's communal residence in Hampshire, by the group's bassist John McVie.
